Authentic Jamaican Beef Patty

Directions

  1. 1To make the dough, mix 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 tablespoon sugar, 1 teaspoon turmeric, 1/2 cup cold butter, and 1/2 cup beef fat.
  2. 2Use cold water to make the dough.
  3. 3Put the dough in the fridge for 35 minutes.
  4. 4To cook the filling, add 2 tablespoons oil to a pan.
  5. 5Add 1/2 of a small onion, 3 chopped garlic cubes, 1/2 of a chopped sweet pepper, and 1 tablespoon fresh thyme.
  6. 6Add 1 chopped scotch bonnet pepper and 8 chopped cherry tomatoes.
  7. 7Add 1/2 pound ground beef.
  8. 8Add 1/2 teaspoon allspice powder (pimento), 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, 1/2 teaspoon paprika, and 1 tablespoon salt.
  9. 9Mix all the ingredients together.
  10. 10Add 1 cup beef broth, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, and 1 tablespoon meat browning.
  11. 11Mix everything together.
  12. 12Add 1 cup of breadcrumbs.
  13. 13Blend the filling a little bit using any blender.
  14. 14Roll out the dough and add some more butter to it.
  15. 15Roll the dough out again.
  16. 16Add the filling to the rolled-out dough to form the patties.
  17. 17Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius).
  18. 18Put the patties inside the oven for 30 minutes.
