Apple Pie

Directions

  1. 1In a bowl, mix the maida and cold butter together with your fingers until it reaches the texture of wet sand.
  2. 2Add a little cold water at a time to the flour mixture to form a stiff dough.
  3. 3Divide the dough into 2 parts. Roll out one part into a 1/4th inch thick disk and line the bottom and sides of a 6-8 inch round baking dish with it. Prick the surface with a fork.
  4. 4Roll out the other portion of dough to the same thickness, cut into 1 inch wide strips, and refrigerate both the lined dish and strips until the filling is ready.
  5. 5In a mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, cinnamon powder, brown sugar, maida, and vanilla essence.
  6. 6Pour the apple filling into the prepared pie crust and create a lattice formation on top using the dough strips, leaving a gap between each square.
  7. 7Brush the top with milk.
  8. 8Bake in the oven at 180 degrees for 40-45 minutes, or until browned from all sides.
  9. 9Let the pie rest for an hour to allow the filling to set and firm up before serving.

Tips

  • The brown sugar amount can be increased to 1/2 cup if more sweetness is desired.
  • The lattice strips can be laid horizontally and then vertically, leaving gaps to allow apple and sugar liquids to ooze out while cooking.
  • Insert a knife through the gap in the squares to ensure the apples have turned soft.
  • Serve warm.
