Directions

  1. 1Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. 2In a large mixing bowl, combine 2½ cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tbsp of baking powder, ½ tsp of salt, 2 tbsp of granulated sugar, and the zest of half an orange.
  3. 3Grate the cold butter and add it to the dry ingredients, mixing until it reaches a mealy texture.
  4. 4Add 1½ cups of fresh cranberries to the mixture and combine.
  5. 5In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 egg, 1 cup of buttermilk, and 1 tsp of vanilla.
  6. 6Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined, ensuring the dough is slightly sticky.
  7. 7Spread the dough into a circle on a lined baking sheet.
  8. 8Cut the dough into 8 slices, like a pizza.
  9. 9Bake for 22-27 minutes at 350°F, or until the edges are lightly golden and the middle is set.
  10. 10For the orange glaze, combine ⅔ cup of powdered sugar with 1 tbsp of orange juice in a small bowl and whisk until smooth.
  11. 11Once the scones are out of the oven and have cooled for at least 5 minutes, top them with the orange glaze.
