Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits

Directions

  1. 1Sift the self-rising flour into a large bowl.
  2. 2Add shredded butter to the flour.
  3. 3Mix the flour and butter with a fork until combined.
  4. 4Add the buttermilk and mix with a spatula until a dough forms.
  5. 5Dust a clean surface with flour and transfer the dough to it.
  6. 6Knead the dough by folding it several times to create layers.
  7. 7Use a biscuit cutter to cut out individual biscuits from the dough.
  8. 8Place the cut biscuits into a cast iron pan.
  9. 9Brush the tops of the biscuits with melted butter.
  10. 10Bake the biscuits until golden brown.
  11. 11Once baked, brush the biscuits again with melted butter.

Tips

  • For 1 cup of self-rising flour, combine 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1.5 tsp of baking powder, and 1/4 tsp of salt. Mix thoroughly.
  • You can add 2 tbsp of honey for honey-butter biscuits.
  • I also recommend adding in a 1:1 ratio of honey to butter to brush on top in the end.
  • Always use a sifter for your flour as it helps ensure the end results in a fluffy biscuit.
  • You can freeze these in advance and just bake them when you are ready!
