In-N-Out Animal Style Burger Bowls

Directions

  1. 1Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  2. 2Wash potatoes.
  3. 3Remove some of the skin, then cut into 1/4” slices to create a fry shape.
  4. 4Optional: Add them to a bowl of ice water with lots salt and let sit while you prepare other ingredients. This will help them to crisp better.
  5. 5Drain potatoes and dry thoroughly with paper towel.
  6. 6Add to a sheet pan, toss with olive oil and seasoning.
  7. 7Bake for 20 minutes, gently toss and bake an additional 20 minutes, or until to desired crispiness.
  8. 8While fries are cooking, add butter & onions to a heated skillet.
  9. 9Cook until softened and slightly caramelized, roughly 10 minutes, stirring often.
  10. 10Remove and set aside.
  11. 11To the skillet add ground beef, cook until browned breaking into small pieces.
  12. 12Add steak seasoning (or salt & pepper)and combine.
  13. 13Add cheese slices over top, cover with a lid and turn off the heat.
  14. 14Allow cheese to melt.
  15. 15Make the special sauce by combining mayo, ketchup, relish, half the caramelized onions and mustard.
  16. 16Assemble the bowls with lettuce base, fries, cheesy beef, toppings of choice and special sauce.

  • 2 russet potatoes
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • Fry seasoning
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • Steak seasoning
  • 5 -6 slices American cheese slices
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 large yellow onion, chopped
  • sprinkle salt
  • 1 /3 cup mayo
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp sweet relish
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • Caramelized onions
  • Chopped lettuce
  • Pickles
  • Tomatoes

Tips

  • Optional: Add cut potatoes to a bowl of ice water with salt while preparing other ingredients to help them crisp better.
  • If in a pinch, frozen fries can be substituted for homemade.
  • Cook onions until softened and slightly caramelized, roughly 10 minutes, stirring often.
  • For the burger, cook ground beef until browned, then add cheese slices over top, cover with a lid and turn off the heat to allow cheese to melt.
