  1. 1Start with a pound of ground beef.
  2. 2Add in half of an onion and half of a bell pepper that has been finely diced.
  3. 3Season with garlic powder, onion powder, some salt, and some pepper.
  4. 4Cook until your ground beef is brown and your vegetables are soft.
  5. 5Once the ground beef is brown, drain off all the excess grease.
  6. 6Stir in a heaping tablespoon of garlic.
  7. 7Let the garlic cook for about 30-45 seconds, maybe a minute, just long enough to let it become fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  8. 8Add in one cup of ketchup, a tablespoon of mustard, a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, two tablespoons of brown sugar, and a half a cup of water.
  9. 9Mix that up really well.
  10. 10Let this come to a slow simmer, reduce the heat, and let it simmer for about 5 to 7 minutes for the flavors to combine.
  11. 11Serve with cheese, mayonnaise, or whatever toppings you like on your sloppy joe.
