Add brown sugar or coconut sugar to a small saucepan.

Add ketchup to the saucepan.

Add apple cider vinegar to the saucepan.

Add Worcestershire sauce to the saucepan.

Add paprika to the saucepan.

Add onion powder to the saucepan.

Add kosher salt to the saucepan.

Add pepper to the saucepan.

Add a pinch of cayenne to the saucepan.

Whisk all ingredients together in the saucepan.

Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Pour the cooked barbecue sauce into a jar.

Stir the sauce in the jar.

Close the jar with a lid.
