Upside Down Smashed Meatball Burger Tarts

Directions

  1. 1Drizzle oil all over the baking tray.
  2. 2Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and fresh thyme.
  3. 3Scatter with onion rings.
  4. 4Lay the meatballs onto the tray, evenly spaced out.
  5. 5Gently push the meatballs down to form a flat burger patty.
  6. 6Add the cheddar cheese on top of each meatball patty.
  7. 7Cut 6 rounds using a large pastry cutter.
  8. 8Slather each with a tablespoon of onion jam leaving a small border around the outside.
  9. 9Drape the pastry rounds, onion-jam side down onto the meatballs.
  10. 10Using the back of a spoon or fork, press indentations around the edge of the pastry to seal.
  11. 11Score the top in a diamond pattern with a sharp knife and then brush with egg.
  12. 12Bake for 30–35 minutes, until the pastry is golden and crisp.
  13. 13Remove from the oven and allow the tarts to sit on the tray for 5 minutes before flipping the burgers over.
  14. 14Dress with pickles, mustard and ketchup or any burger relish you love.

  • Mustard
