Directions

  1. 1To make cake flour, remove 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour from 1 cup and replace with 2 tablespoons of cornstarch.
  2. 2To make self-rising flour, mix 1 cup of all-purpose flour with 1/4 teaspoon of salt and 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder.
  3. 3To make buttermilk, mix 1 cup of regular milk with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar.
  4. 4To make icing sugar, process granulated sugar in a blender or food processor until it reaches a fine, dusty consistency.
  5. 5To make light brown sugar, mix 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1/2 tablespoon of molasses.
  6. 6To make medium brown sugar, mix 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 tablespoon of molasses.
  7. 7To make dark brown sugar, mix 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 1/2 tablespoons of molasses.
