Directions

  1. 1In a large pot, add the milk and sugar.
  2. 2Stir until well dissolved.
  3. 3Bring to a boil over high heat.
  4. 4After 10 minutes, lower the heat to medium-low.
  5. 5Stir constantly so the sugar does not stick and so that no balls form.
  6. 6Remove the milk that sticks to the sides with a spatula.
  7. 7At this point the milk starts to rise, so keep stirring vigorously to bring it back down, being careful not to spill it.
  8. 8After 1 1/2 hours, add the vanilla.
  9. 9After 2 hours, when the mixture has thickened, lower the heat to low and cook for another 5-10 minutes while stirring.
  10. 10Turn off the heat and continue stirring for 15 to 20 minutes.
  11. 11Pour it onto a surface with waxed paper.
  12. 12Spread the mixture so that it is even.
  13. 13Fold the paper over the edges, cover it and let it sit for 2 hours.
  14. 14After 2 hours, divide to cut it into pieces.
