In a large pot, add the milk and sugar.

Stir until well dissolved.

Bring to a boil over high heat.

After 10 minutes, lower the heat to medium-low.

Stir constantly so the sugar does not stick and so that no balls form.

Remove the milk that sticks to the sides with a spatula.

At this point the milk starts to rise, so keep stirring vigorously to bring it back down, being careful not to spill it.

After 1 1/2 hours, add the vanilla.

After 2 hours, when the mixture has thickened, lower the heat to low and cook for another 5-10 minutes while stirring.

Turn off the heat and continue stirring for 15 to 20 minutes.

Pour it onto a surface with waxed paper.

Spread the mixture so that it is even.

Fold the paper over the edges, cover it and let it sit for 2 hours.

After 2 hours, divide to cut it into pieces.

Tips
It is important to have waxed paper so that it does not stick when it dries.
A ruler can be used to make the pieces more even.
The candy can be wrapped in cellophane and put in pretty baskets during the holidays.
