Toast the raw hazelnuts at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 15 minutes, tossing them halfway through.
Pour the toasted hazelnuts onto a towel.
Massage the hazelnuts in the towel to remove their skins.
Put the hazelnuts in a strainer and strain out the remaining small bits of skin.
Put the peeled hazelnuts into a food processor or blender.
Blend the hazelnuts until they become a smooth liquid, scraping the sides as needed. This may take about 5 minutes, going from crumbly to lumpy to liquid.
Melt 1 cup of dark chocolate chips.
Add the melted chocolate to the blended hazelnuts.
Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla.
Add a pinch of salt.
Blend the mixture for a couple more minutes until it's smooth and combined, scraping the sides as needed.
Pour the finished Nutella into a container or jar for storage. If you want it extra smooth, pour it through a strainer.
