Homemade Oreos

Directions

  1. 1Add 1 and 1/4 cups of flour to a bowl.
  2. 2Add 1/3 cup of cocoa powder to the bowl.
  3. 3Add 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda.
  4. 4Add 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
  5. 5Combine all dry ingredients together using a whisk.
  6. 6Melt 1/2 cup of butter in a separate bowl.
  7. 7Add 1/3 cup of maple syrup to the melted butter.
  8. 8Add 1 whole teaspoon of vanilla to the butter and maple syrup mixture.
  9. 9Combine the wet ingredients (melted butter, maple syrup, vanilla) with the dry ingredients.
  10. 10Mix until it turns into a dough.
  11. 11Place the dough on parchment paper and freeze for 15 minutes.
  12. 12Once chilled, flatten the dough.
  13. 13Use a circle cutter to cut out small circles from the flattened dough.
  14. 14Remove the remaining dough around the circles; this can be re-rolled and used for more cookies.
  15. 15Transfer the parchment paper with the cookie circles onto a baking pan.
  16. 16Bake the cookies at 325 degrees Fahrenheit for 12 minutes.
  17. 17Let the baked cookies chill for at least 10 minutes.
  18. 18For the cream filling, add 6 tablespoons of softened butter to a bowl.
  19. 19Add 1 cup of powdered sugar.
  20. 20Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  21. 21Mix the cream filling ingredients, optionally using your hands.
  22. 22Add a dollop of the cream filling to the bottom side of a cookie.
  23. 23Place another cookie on top of the cream filling and gently sandwich them together.

  • 0.5 cups butter
  • 0.33 cups maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 6 tbsp softened butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Tips

  • Use real vanilla, not synthetic.
