Slow-Braised French Dip Sandwich

Directions

  1. 1Sear the beef chuck roast in a Dutch oven.
  2. 2Add butter, fresh rosemary, garlic, and a splash of red wine to the Dutch oven with the beef.
  3. 3Add beef broth.
  4. 4Cover the Dutch oven and slow roast the beef in the oven.
  5. 5Bake the sourdough demi-baguettes in the oven.
  6. 6Remove the baked demi-baguettes from the oven.
  7. 7Slice the onion.
  8. 8Add butter to a pan.
  9. 9Add the sliced onions to the pan and caramelize them.
  10. 10Deglaze the pan with white wine.
  11. 11Remove the slow-roasted beef from the oven.
  12. 12Shred the tender beef using forks.
  13. 13Slice the demi-baguette lengthwise.
  14. 14Remove some of the inside bread from the demi-baguette.
  15. 15Drizzle olive oil inside the demi-baguette.
  16. 16Toast the demi-baguette in the oven.
  17. 17Place shredded beef inside the toasted demi-baguette.
  18. 18Add slices of provolone cheese on top of the beef.
  19. 19Toast the sandwich in the oven until the cheese is melted.
  20. 20Pour some of the beef broth into a small bowl for dipping.
  21. 21Garnish the sandwich with chopped chives.
  22. 22Cut the French dip sandwich in half.
  23. 23Serve the French dip sandwich with the dipping broth.

Tips

  • Remove a lot of the inside of the demi-baguettes to help them better hold the slow-cooked beef and cheese.
  • Toast the demi-baguettes with olive oil prior to adding the beef and cheese.
  • Toast once more until the cheese is melted on top.
