Directions

  1. 1Butter and line a 13x9 baking pan.
  2. 2In a large bowl, mix 2 cups flour, 1/2 cup sugar, and 12 tablespoons of butter until the mixture resembles sand.
  3. 3Transfer the shortbread mixture to the lined baking pan.
  4. 4Press the mixture down firmly to form the base.
  5. 5Bake the shortbread base at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes.
  6. 6In a saucepan, combine 1/2 cup brown sugar, 2 cans of sweetened condensed milk, and 1/2 cup butter.
  7. 7Stir the caramel mixture constantly over heat until it boils, then reduce to a simmer.
  8. 8Continue stirring for another 5 minutes until the caramel thickens.
  9. 9Pour the thickened caramel over the baked shortbread base and smooth it out.
  10. 10Chill the shortbread with caramel for 1 hour.
  11. 11Melt 1 cup of chocolate chips in the microwave.
  12. 12Spread the melted chocolate over the chilled caramel layer.
  13. 13Chill for 1 hour until the chocolate is set.
  14. 14Remove the millionaire's shortbread from the pan and cut into squares.
