Directions

  1. 1Preheat your oven to 190 °C / 375 °F.
  2. 2Lightly grease your baking dish with cooking spray, oil, or butter.
  3. 3In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef and chopped onion.
  4. 4Cook, breaking up the beef, until the meat is browned and the onion is softened (about 6–8 minutes).
  5. 5Drain excess fat if there’s a lot in the pan.
  6. 6Add minced garlic (if using) and cook 1 more minute, stirring.
  7. 7Season with salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce (if using), and paprika (optional).
  8. 8Turn heat to low.
  9. 9Stir in cream of mushroom soup, milk, and frozen mixed vegetables.
  10. 10Mix until everything is well combined and heated through for 1–2 minutes.
  11. 11Taste and adjust seasoning (add a bit more salt/pepper if needed).
  12. 12Pour the beef/veggie mixture into the greased baking dish and spread it into an even layer.
  13. 13Sprinkle about half to two-thirds of the shredded cheese evenly over the beef layer.
  14. 14Arrange frozen tater tots in a single, even layer on top.
  15. 15Place the casserole in the preheated oven.
  16. 16Bake for 30–35 minutes, until the tater tots are golden and crispy on top and the mixture is bubbly around the edges.
  17. 17If you want it extra cheesy, sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top in the last 5–10 minutes of baking and return to the oven until melted.
  18. 18Remove from the oven and let it rest for about 5–10 minutes.
  19. 19Serve warm—scoop it out with a large spoon or spatula.
