  2. 2Give the flour and salt a quick mix.
  3. 3Add a little bit of sugar and yeast to the warm water.
  4. 4Pour the warm water, sugar, and yeast mixture into the flour and salt.
  5. 5Mix until all ingredients are combined.
  6. 6Cover the bowl and put it in a warm place for about an hour and a half for the dough to rise.
  7. 7Flour your surface.
  8. 8Get the dough out onto the floured surface.
  9. 9Shape the dough into a loaf.
  10. 10Cut the dough in half.
  11. 11Cut the halves into halves again.
  12. 12Throw a little more flour down and get them a little easier to handle.
  13. 13Cut those pieces again to get 12 pieces.
  14. 14Shape each piece of dough into a cylinder by folding it into itself, making sure the seam is shut.
  15. 15Place the shaped dough pieces onto a lightly floured pan with parchment paper.
  16. 16Let the shaped dough rest on the counter for about 10 minutes.
  17. 17Dimple the rolls by pressing a knife down the center.
  18. 18Lightly dust the tops of the rolls with flour.
  19. 19Let them rest covered for about 30 to 40 minutes for the final proof.
  20. 20Bake the rolls at 425 degrees Fahrenheit (220 degrees Celsius) on a rack just below the center for 12-15 minutes until golden and hollow.

Tips

  • Use quick-rise instant yeast as it's very forgiving and easy to use.
  • Sugar is good for this particular roll because it makes them slightly sweet.
  • If you're not sure if the rolls are done, an instant-read thermometer should read about 205-206 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Another way to check for doneness is to tap the roll; if it sounds hollow, it's perfect.
