Bring milk to a boil. (If making a double batch, use 1.5 quarts of milk and reserve some for paste.)

Separate egg yolks from whites. (You don't need to keep the whites.)

Whisk the egg yolks a little bit.

Add raw sugar to the egg yolks.

Whisk the sugar and egg yolks.

Add flour to the mixture.

Add salt to the mixture.

Gradually add a little bit of milk and start whisking. (It might get pretty stiff, but that's what you want to prevent lumps.)

Once the milk comes to a boil, quickly whisk in the paste mixture.

Keep whisking it over heat until it comes to a boil and turns nice and thick.

Once the pudding turns thick, turn off the heat.

Add vanilla and whisk it in.

Pour the pudding into a bowl to cool.

Taste the pudding to ensure it's delicious.
