Directions

  1. 1For the crust, add half a cup of butter, one and a half cups of flour, and one cup of brown sugar to the KitchenAid stand mixer using the paddle attachment.
  2. 2For the middle layer, add 2/3 cup of butter and half a cup of brown sugar to a saucepan and cook on medium-low heat.
  3. 3Once the butter and brown sugar mixture comes to a boil, time it for 60 seconds.
  4. 4Pour the cookie base mixture from the stand mixer into the bottom of a 9x13 prepared pan.
  5. 5Press the cookie base all around the entire surface of the pan.
  6. 6Add a full layer of pecan halves on top of the pressed cookie base; you're looking for approximately 1/2 a cup, but measure with your heart.
  7. 7Add the butter and brown sugar mixture on top of the pecans, spreading it evenly.
  8. 8Bake the pan in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 18 to 20 minutes, until the brown sugar mixture is bubbling.
  9. 9Immediately add 1 cup of milk chocolate chips on top of the hot, baked bars.
  10. 10Let the chocolate chips sit for a couple of minutes to melt, then spread them out evenly over the bars.
  11. 11Sprinkle a little flaky salt on top of the chocolate layer.
  12. 12Allow the turtle bars to fully cool before cutting them into individual bars.
