Directions

  1. 1To a 1/4 cup of lukewarm water, add 2 teaspoons of sugar and 1 1/2 teaspoons of dry active yeast; let it sit for 10 minutes.
  2. 2In a large bowl, combine 3/4 cup plain yogurt, 3/4 cup milk, and 1/4 cup oil; mix well.
  3. 3Add the yeast mixture to the bowl and mix.
  4. 4Add 4 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of baking powder; mix until you can't mix anymore.
  5. 5Knead the dough on a floured surface for 3-5 minutes until soft and springy.
  6. 6Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place (like the oven with only the light on) for 1 hour and 30 minutes until doubled in size.
  7. 7Divide the dough into 8 equal-sized balls, cover with a damp cloth, and let rest for about 15 minutes.
  8. 8Roll each ball into a fairly thin oval shape.
  9. 9Cook the naan on a preheated hot cast iron skillet without oil, flipping once browned on the underside.
  10. 10In a bowl, mix 1/4 cup melted butter, a lot of crushed garlic, some chopped cilantro, and a little bit of ghee (optional).
  11. 11Brush the garlic mixture over the cooked naan.
