Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a 1lb loaf tin.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the wholemeal flour, oats, bread soda, and salt.

In a jug, whisk together the Guinness, buttermilk, honey and black treacle until smooth.

Make a well in the centre of the dry ingredients and pour in the wet mixture. Using a fork, mix until just combined. The dough will be quite wet.

Transfer the dough to the greased loaf tin, smoothing the top with a spatula. Sprinkle with the reserved oats.

Bake for 45 minutes, or until the loaf is firm and sounds hollow when tapped on the base.

Remove from the tin and allow to cool on a wire rack before slicing.

2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
1 tsp flaked salt
2 tsp honey
330 ml Guinness
170 ml buttermilk
2 tbsp black treacle

0 jam
