Directions

  1. 1Place cream cheese in the freezer for 15 minutes before preparation.
  2. 2Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  3. 3Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  4. 4Slice butter into 12 slices.
  5. 5Place 2 slices of butter vertically in 6 sections on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. 6Top each set of butter slices with 1 tablespoon brown sugar.
  7. 7Slice partially frozen cream cheese into 12 slices.
  8. 8Set 2 slices of cream cheese side by side on top of brown sugar sections.
  9. 9Lightly roll puff pastry on a lightly floured surface.
  10. 10Cut pastry sheet into 6 rectangles.
  11. 11Press pastry around each mound of cream cheese mixture, pressing slightly down on the cream cheese.
  12. 12Use a fork to crimp the edges of each pastry.
  13. 13Brush pastries with beaten egg.
  14. 14Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown and flaky, 15 to 18 minutes.
  15. 15Let stand on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before carefully turning over.
  16. 16Meanwhile, whisk together confectioner's sugar and milk until smooth.
  17. 17Drizzle desired amount of icing over pastries.
