  1. 1Slice a warm loaf of orange date soda bread.
  2. 2Spread maple brown sugar butter on a slice of soda bread.
  3. 3Pour buttermilk into a bowl.
  4. 4Zest an orange into the bowl with the buttermilk.
  5. 5Whisk the orange zest into the buttermilk.
  6. 6In a large bowl, mix together flour, baking soda, salt, and granulated sugar.
  7. 7Grate cold unsalted butter into the dry ingredients.
  8. 8Use your fingers or a fork to work the butter into the flour until it resembles small pebbles.
  9. 9Add the whisked egg and buttermilk mixture to the dry ingredients.
  10. 10Mix with a spatula, then with your hands, to form a dough.

  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1.5 tsp dark brown sugar
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp cinnamon
