Directions

  1. 1Combine half a cup of butter, one and a half cups of flour, and one cup of brown sugar in a stand mixer with a paddle attachment for the crust.
  2. 2Press the crust mixture firmly into the bottom of a 7x11 dish.
  3. 3Layer approximately one cup of pecan halves over the crust, ensuring maximum coverage.
  4. 4In a small to medium pot, combine two-thirds of a cup of butter and one cup of brown sugar for the filling.
  5. 5Heat the filling mixture on medium-low heat until combined, melted, and brought to a very gentle boil.
  6. 6Once the filling reaches a gentle boil, set a timer for 60 seconds and let it bubble.
  7. 7Pour the hot filling over the pecans and the crust, spreading it to ensure everything is covered.
  8. 8Bake in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately 18 to 20 minutes.
  9. 9Immediately after removing from the oven, sprinkle one cup of milk chocolate chips on top.
  10. 10Let the chocolate chips melt for a minute or two, then spread them evenly.
  11. 11Optionally, sprinkle a little finishing salt on top.
  12. 12Allow the turtle bars to cool fully at room temperature for a minimum of 4 hours before cutting.
