Add star anise, green cardamom, and black peppercorns to a grinder.

Grind the spices.

Chop onions using a chopper.

Chop tomatoes.

Grind some ingredients into a paste.

Chop coriander.

Heat ghee in a large pot.

Add chopped onions to the pot and sauté.

Add chopped tomatoes, green chilies, mint leaves, and bay leaves to the pot.

Add garam masala and red chili powder to the pot.

Add the ground paste and curd to the pot and mix well.

Add mushrooms to the pot and mix with the spices.

Pour water into the pot.

Add rice to the pot.

Stir the rice and ingredients in the pot.

Cover the pot and cook.

Place a banana leaf over the rice before covering for dum cooking.

Once cooked, fluff the biryani with a spatula.

Add a spoonful of ghee to the biryani.

Fluff the biryani again to mix the ghee.

Serve the biryani by pressing it into a bowl and then plating it on a banana leaf.

Garnish with boondi raita and mint chutney.
