Add yeast, warm water, sugar, brandy, lemon zest, oil, egg, and flour into a gallon-sized plastic bag.
Zip the bag and mix the ingredients well until a dough forms.
Place the sealed bag containing the dough into a bowl of very warm water and let it rest for 1 hour.
Remove the dough from the bag onto a floured surface.
Roll out the dough to a 1/2 inch thickness, ensuring both sides are floured.
Using a cookie cutter or drinking glass, cut 2-inch circles from the dough.
Gather the dough scraps, roll them out again, and cut more circles.
Cover the cut dough circles with a towel and let them rest for 30 minutes.
Fill a pan with 2 inches of oil and heat it to 350°F (around medium heat on a stovetop).
Fry the doughnuts in the hot oil for about 1 minute on each side until golden brown.
Remove the fried doughnuts and place them on a cooling rack or a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
Using a squeeze tube or piping bag, fill the doughnuts with strawberry jelly or your favorite jam.
Dust the filled donuts with powdered sugar.
