Directions

  1. 1Wash the oranges thoroughly, cut into pieces (leave peel on), and remove seeds.
  2. 2Simmer the oranges with 1 cup of water in a covered pan for 15 minutes.
  3. 3Add the dark chocolate to the pan and stir until melted.
  4. 4Transfer everything to a blender and blend until smooth.
  5. 5Pour into 6 small ramekins or 1 baking dish (7.5” x 6”), smooth the top, and refrigerate for 2+ hours.
  6. 6Dust with cacao powder before serving.

Tips

  • Use organic oranges if possible, since you’re using the peel. Thin-skinned oranges work best for this recipe.
  • Ensure some liquid remains after cooking the oranges, or add a little more water if needed (the pectin will help thicken as it cools).
  • Dust with cacao powder before serving.
  • Oranges (with the peel!) bring prebiotic fibres like pectin, which help feed your beneficial gut bacteria. The peel is also rich in polyphenols (plant compounds that support microbial diversity).
