Butter a 9x13 pan.

Melt 1 cup of unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat.

Pour in 14 oz can of sweetened condensed milk.

Add 2 cups of brown sugar.

Add 1 cup of corn syrup.

Stir with a rubber spatula, scraping the sides and bottom.

Bring to a simmer over medium heat; stir constantly until it reaches 235-245°F.

Remove from heat and stir in 1/4 teaspoon of salt and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract.

Pour into prepared pan and spread evenly.

Let cool at room temperature for at least two hours before slicing into squares.

Wrap each caramel individually in wax paper.
