Directions

  1. 1Add 1 and 1/2 cups of flour, 3 tablespoons of sugar, 1/8 of a teaspoon of salt, and 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder to a medium bowl and mix. You can use a sifter too if you like.
  2. 2In a separate bowl add one large egg, 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1/2 cup of milk, and 1/2 cup of water and mix.
  3. 3Add the dry ingredients, half at a time, and mix until you have a runny batter.
  4. 4Pour the batter into a smaller cup with a spout. It makes it easier to pour into the funnel.
  5. 5Heat cooking oil to 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 176 Celsius.
  6. 6Add about a half cup of batter to your funnel with your finger covering the opening, then remove your finger and allow the batter to fall into the hot oil.
  7. 7Move the funnel around in circles to distribute the batter.
  8. 8Allow it to cook for a minute or two and then turn it over. Cook both sides until golden brown.
  9. 9Remove with tongs and place on a wire rack to dry.
  10. 10Top with things like powdered sugar, strawberry sauce, chocolate sauce, whatever you like.
