Heat a dry skillet or comal over medium-high heat.

Add the chiles de árbol, serrano pepper, tomatillos, and tomato.

Roast, turning often, until lightly charred on all sides and fragrant.

Remove from heat and set the garlic aside without cooking it.

Transfer the roasted chiles, tomatillos, serrano, and tomato to a saucepan.

Cover with water and bring to a boil.

Simmer for 8–10 minutes, just until softened but not falling apart.

Drain well and let cool slightly.

Add the softened vegetables to a blender along with the garlic, cilantro, and salt.

Blend until smooth.

Add lime juice and blend briefly to combine.

Taste and adjust salt if needed.
