Chile de Árbol Salsa

Directions

  1. 1Heat a dry skillet or comal over medium-high heat.
  2. 2Add the chiles de árbol, serrano pepper, tomatillos, and tomato.
  3. 3Roast, turning often, until lightly charred on all sides and fragrant.
  4. 4Remove from heat and set the garlic aside without cooking it.
  5. 5Transfer the roasted chiles, tomatillos, serrano, and tomato to a saucepan.
  6. 6Cover with water and bring to a boil.
  7. 7Simmer for 8–10 minutes, just until softened but not falling apart.
  8. 8Drain well and let cool slightly.
  9. 9Add the softened vegetables to a blender along with the garlic, cilantro, and salt.
  10. 10Blend until smooth.
  11. 11Add lime juice and blend briefly to combine.
  12. 12Taste and adjust salt if needed.

  • 1 serrano pepper
  • 3 tomatillos, husked and rinsed
  • 1 ripe tomato
  • 1 handful fresh cilantro
  • 1 clove garlic, peeled
  • 1 Juice of lime
  • Salt, to taste
