Directions

  1. 1Using a microplane, zest the oranges, then juice them and set the juice aside.
  2. 2In a medium-sized bowl, combine the granulated sugar and orange zest, massaging the sugar into the zest with your fingers until uniformly orange.
  3. 3Add the zest and sugar mixture along with the orange juice to a small saucepan over medium-low heat.
  4. 4Heat to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally until all the sugar has dissolved.
  5. 5Turn off the heat and let the zest steep in the syrup until fully cooled.
  6. 6Strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve to remove the zest.
  7. 7Transfer the finished syrup to a mason jar or storage container.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp orange zest
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • sparkling water (optional)

Tips

  • You can make the soda as sweet or unsweet as you’d like.
