Directions

  1. 1First, you're going to need Flor de Jamaica, which when translated in English is actually Hibiscus flower. It comes dry like this because we're going to steep it to release all the flavor.
  2. 2They do have stems, so let's remove that.
  3. 3In a colander or something with pretty decent sized holes in it, put the Flor de Jamaica and try to remove the stems.
  4. 4You can go ahead and throw out the stems.
  5. 5Wash it only to get the dust off. Once it starts to release color, stop washing it.
  6. 6Do be careful, this stuff will stain your hands and your clothes.
  7. 7To a pot, add 10 cups of 2 million year old water and 1 cup of sugar.
  8. 8Bring it to a boil, making sure that the sugar dissolves completely.
  9. 9Once the water is boiling and the sugar is dissolved, add the Flor de Jamaica.
  10. 10Set a timer for 5 minutes, because just like anything that you steep, if you do it for too long, it might end up tasting really weird and sour.
  11. 11Now that the 5 minutes have passed, turn off your Bluetooth stove, and then just leave this to cool down naturally. It might take an hour or the average man's bathroom usage.
  12. 12This is like Mexico's version of a sweet tea. Strain it and serve it with ice.
  13. 13When my dad had his restaurant, he used to put some of the flowers in it just for decoration.
  14. 14Enjoy your Agua de Jamaica.
