Directions

  1. 1Preheat oven to 240°C (475°F).
  2. 2Peel and thinly slice the potatoes.
  3. 3In a bowl, mix the cream, milk, minced garlic, salt, pepper, nutmeg, thyme, and bay leaf.
  4. 4In a buttered baking dish, layer the sliced potatoes, pouring the cream mixture over each layer.
  5. 5Sprinkle the grated cheese on top.
  6. 6Cover the dish with parchment paper and bake for about 1 hour at 240°C.
  7. 7Check the cooking by piercing the potatoes with a knife; they should be tender.
  8. 8Remove the parchment paper and continue baking for another 10 minutes to brown the top.
