Wash your cherries thoroughly, take off the stems, and pit them.
Set the prepared cherries aside.
Start making your simple syrup by combining 2 parts sugar to 1 part water, the zest of one lemon, the juice of one lemon, some cinnamon sticks, and some whole cloves.
Cook the syrup over a medium-high heat until it comes to a boil.
Carefully add in the pitted cherries and cook for another 5 minutes on a low setting.
Sterilize your jar and lid while the cherries are cooking.
Strain off the liquid, take out the lemon peels and cinnamon sticks.
Carefully pack the cherries into your sterilized jar.
Add your favorite spirit, such as Luxardo Maraschino liqueur, bourbon, cognac, or rum.
Ensure the jar and liquid are still hot when packing to get a perfect seal.
Once the lid is on nice and tight, flip the jar upside down.
Let them rest for a couple of hours.
