Homemade Lotion Bar

Directions

  1. 1Pour all ingredients into a double boiler.
  2. 2Melt ingredients over medium heat until everything is melted.
  3. 3Remove the mixture from the heat.
  4. 4Allow the mixture to cool slightly before adding 15 to 30 drops of essential oil.
  5. 5Stir lightly to combine the essential oils well into the liquid.
  6. 6Pour the mixture into a tin storage container or silicone molds, using about 1/4 of a cup per mold.
  7. 7Allow the mixture to completely harden in the silicone molds, preferably overnight.
  8. 8Once completely hardened, pop the lotion bars out of the silicone molds.
  9. 9Store the lotion bars in a glass mason jar or any type of airtight container in a cool place.

  • shea butter
  • coconut oil

Tips

  • You can use shea butter instead of cocoa butter or a combination of the two.
  • Allow the mixture to cool slightly before adding essential oils to prevent evaporation and loss of therapeutic benefits.
  • For gifts, use creative silicone molds like heart-shaped or those with writing.
  • Store lotion bars in a cool place, or in the refrigerator if you are in a warmer place, to prevent melting, as coconut oil solidifies below 76 degrees.
  • To speed up hardening, you can place the molds in the refrigerator or freezer.
