Tips

  • Geranium is known to repel ticks.
  • Lavender, Lemon Eucalyptus, and Basil repel other bugs like mosquitos and gnats.
  • Using a high proof alcohol extends the shelf life by acting as a preservative.
  • Rubbing alcohol is not a good choice as it is harmful to breathe in.
  • Witch hazel is not a true preservative.
  • Always test patch skin first.
  • Spray on everywhere but especially your hat, ankles, backpack and shoes.
  • This recipe is not kid friendly and check with your doctor if pregnant or nursing.
  • For a kid-friendly version, consider 4 drops each of Lavender and Geranium in an 8-ounce recipe.
  • Essential oils are strong, so err on the side of caution especially with children.
  • Everclear is a good choice for grain alcohol.
  • Label the bottle after preparing the spray.
  • Enjoy!
