Weigh out the ingredients in separate containers: tallow, castor oil, and essential oil in one; water and glycerin in another; and potassium hydroxide in a third. WEAR GLOVES AND EYE PROTECTION when handling potassium hydroxide, as it is caustic.
Slowly add potassium hydroxide to the water and glycerin mixture. Do NOT add water to the potassium hydroxide.
Combine the fats with the potassium hydroxide mixture in an Instant Pot on the slow cooker setting using a stick blender until it reaches trace (it will thicken instantly).
Cover the mixture and stir every couple of hours until it turns into a paste (this will take several hours).
To test if the soap is ready, take a small amount and add it to some hot distilled water; shake well. If the solution is clear and not cloudy, the soap is ready.
Pack portions for long-term storage into glass mason jars.
Dilute the soap with distilled water as needed. Test the diluted soap's pH; it should be around 9.
