Directions

  1. 1Remove the four lug nuts using a 19-millimeter socket and remove the wheel.
  2. 2Remove the nut off of the ball joint bolt, using a T50 bit and a 15-millimeter socket.
  3. 3Turn the head of the bolt to get it loosened up inside.
  4. 4Remove the bolt using a punch and hammer.
  5. 5Using a pry bar and a hook, hook onto the control arm and pry down and remove the ball joint from the knuckle.
  6. 6Using a cut-off wheel, make an X in each of the rivet heads on the top and the bottom of the ball joint.
  7. 7Hit them with an air hammer, blast off the heads, and then use a punch bit and push them up and out.
  8. 8Remove the ball joint out of the control arm using an air hammer or a big hammer.
  9. 9Install the ball joint.
  10. 10Using a 16-millimeter wrench for the head of the bolt, snug down the nut with a 17-millimeter socket.
  11. 11Install the nuts and torque the ball joint nut and bolt to 50 foot-pounds.
  12. 12Install the ball joint into the knuckle.
  13. 13Install the ball joint bolt.
  14. 14Hold the head of the bolt with a 13-millimeter wrench while tightening the nut with a 15-millimeter socket.
  15. 15Torque the ball joint through bolt to 46 foot-pounds.
  16. 16Install the wheel.
  17. 17Install the lug nuts and snug them down.
  18. 18Torque the lug nuts to 94 foot-pounds in a cross pattern.

Tips

  • If you don't have a punch, you can put the nut back on and hit on top of the nut. The presenter advised not to mushroom the bolt.
  • If you need help getting the ball joint up in, you could use a soft face hammer.
