## Ingredients

- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium yellow onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 8 tomatoes cut in half
- 1 tsp salt
- 0.5 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 0.5 cup water or beef broth
- 0.5 tsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp butter
- Parmesan cheese, for serving
- Cooked spaghetti

## Instructions

1. If you want it to be meat sauce, brown up about a pound of hamburger.
2. Remove that meat from the pan.
3. If you didn't use hamburger, put some olive oil in the pan.
4. Sauté an onion for about 5 minutes.
5. Wash up about 2 pounds of tomatoes and cut them in half.
6. Add in the garlic into those onions and then sauté that for about another 30 seconds.
7. Add in the seasonings (fresh basil if available).
8. Put all of those tomatoes into the pan, face down.
9. Let those simmer for about 20 to 30 minutes.
10. Remove the skins from the tomatoes. If they don't peel off easily, put the lid back on and let it go for a little bit longer.
11. Mash the tomatoes up with a meat masher to your desired chunkiness or use a blender for a smooth sauce.
12. Simmer for probably about 15 minutes, or until it's the thickness you like.
13. Add back in that ground beef.
14. Try the sauce and adjust the saltiness to your liking.

## Equipment

- large skillet
- meat masher
- blender
- immersion blender

## Tips

- To achieve a smooth sauce, use a blender or immersion blender.
- Ensure the immersion blender is parallel to the ground to prevent splattering.
- Simmer the sauce until it reaches your desired thickness.
- Taste and adjust saltiness as some tomatoes can be saltier than others.
