# Grandma’s Old-Fashioned Southern Banana Pudding

## Ingredients

- 5 whole egg yolk
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/3 cup flour
- 1/4 tsp kosher salt
- 3 1/2 cup whole milk
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 4 whole ripe banana
- 11 oz vanilla wafer
- 5 whole egg white
- 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract

## Instructions

1. Whisk egg yolks, 1 cup sugar, heavy cream, flour, kosher salt, and whole milk in a large bowl.
2. Pour the custard mixture into a three-quart saucepan and heat over medium heat while stirring constantly until thickened.
3. Stir in the butter and 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract once the custard thickens, then remove from heat to cool.
4. Layer vanilla wafers, sliced bananas, and the prepared custard in a baking dish, repeating the process for three layers total.
5. Beat egg whites with a hand mixer until frothy, then add cream of tartar and continue beating.
6. Add 1 cup of sugar and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract, beating until soft peaks form.
7. Spread the meringue evenly over the custard and place under the broiler.
