- 5 tbsp milk
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp vanilla

## Instructions

1. Add self-raising flour to a bowl.
2. Add butter cubes and rub them into the flour with your hands until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.
3. Add sugar and stir it in.
4. In a glass or bowl, combine milk, egg, and vanilla, then mix with a fork.
5. Add the majority of the egg-milk mixture to the flour and stir with a knife.
6. Place the dough on a floured surface and pat it into a rectangle.
7. Cut the dough into scones using a knife, dipping the knife in flour to help with cutting.
8. Brush the tops of the scones with the remaining egg-milk mixture, avoiding the edges.
9. Bake at 200 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes until risen and golden.

## Equipment

- bowl
- knife
- glass
- fork
- baking sheet
- aluminum foil

## Tips

- Do not get the egg-milk mixture around the edges of the scones before baking.
- Dip your knife in flour to make cutting the scones easier.
- If using a cutter for circles, gather leftover dough, pull it together, and repeat until all dough is used.
- Scones are done when they are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
