## Ingredients

- 1 stick butter
- 0.5 bag dark brown sugar
- 0.5 pound butter
- 0.5 bag brown sugar
- 1 cup white granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon brown ginger
- 0.5 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 small pinch salt
- 4 apples, peeled and diced
- 0.25 cup maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2.25 cups all purpose flour
- 1 box box cake mix
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 0.5 teaspoon ground ginger
- 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg

## Instructions

1. To make the apple filling, add 1 stick of butter and half a bag of dark brown sugar into one pot.
2. To make the crumb topping, place half a pound of butter in another pot.
3. Melt both pots of butter over the stove or in a microwave.
4. In a bowl, add the remaining brown sugar, 1 cup of white granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon of cinnamon, 1 teaspoon of brown ginger, half a teaspoon of nutmeg, and a small pinch of salt. Set aside.
5. Peel and dice 4 apples.
6. In the pot with butter and brown sugar (for the apple filling), stir in 1/4 cup of maple syrup, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and all the diced apples. Set aside.
7. Back to the mixing bowl (for the crumb topping), add the melted butter and stir to combine.
8. Fold in 2 and a quarter cups of all-purpose flour into the crumb mixture until absorbed, but still lumpy. Set aside.
9. In a separate bowl, add the box cake mix and prepare according to package directions, typically with water.
10. Once the cake mix is mostly mixed, add 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, half a teaspoon of ground ginger, and a quarter to half a teaspoon of ground nutmeg.
11. Finish mixing the cake batter, being careful not to overmix.
12. Grease a 9x13 baking pan and add all of the apple filling.
13. Evenly sprinkle about half of the crumb mixture over the apples.
14. Pour the cake batter over the crumb layer.
15. Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture on top of the cake batter.
16. Bake in a 350-degree oven for about 20 to 25 minutes, then check for doneness using the toothpick method. Mine took an extra 10 minutes.
17. Serve with your favorite ice cream.
