## Ingredients

- 1 sheet Red velvet cake
- Simple syrup
- Cream cheese frosting (yellowish)
- Red food coloring
- Buttercream frosting (tan/brown)
- Black food coloring
- Black fondant
- Red edible spray paint

## Instructions

1. Trim the top of the red velvet cake to make it level.
2. Cut an oval shape into the center of the cake, but do not cut all the way through.
3. Remove the cut-out section and then flip the cake upside down.
4. Pour simple syrup over the cake.
5. Spread a layer of cream cheese frosting over the cake.
6. Add red food coloring to some of the cream cheese frosting and marble it into the yellow frosting on the cake.
7. Flip the cake back over so the frosted side is facing down.
8. Gently cut around the edges of the initial oval cut to open up the cake.
9. Mix black food coloring into tan buttercream frosting.
10. Apply the black buttercream to the edges of the cake, creating a jagged, root-like texture around the opening.
11. Roll out thin strands of black fondant.
12. Place the fondant strands across the opening of the cake to create the gate bars.
13. Use an airbrush to spray red edible paint around the gate opening to simulate a glowing effect.
