# Ford Focus Front Ball Joint Replacement

This video shows how to replace a front ball joint on a Ford Focus.

## Ingredients

- Ball Joint
- Bolt
- 3 Nuts

## Instructions

1. Remove the four lug nuts using a 19-millimeter socket and remove the wheel.
2. Remove the nut off of the ball joint bolt, using a T50 bit and a 15-millimeter socket.
3. Turn the head of the bolt to get it loosened up inside.
4. Remove the bolt using a punch and hammer.
5. Using a pry bar and a hook, hook onto the control arm and pry down and remove the ball joint from the knuckle.
6. Using a cut-off wheel, make an X in each of the rivet heads on the top and the bottom of the ball joint.
7. Hit them with an air hammer, blast off the heads, and then use a punch bit and push them up and out.
8. Remove the ball joint out of the control arm using an air hammer or a big hammer.
9. Install the ball joint.
10. Using a 16-millimeter wrench for the head of the bolt, snug down the nut with a 17-millimeter socket.
11. Install the nuts and torque the ball joint nut and bolt to 50 foot-pounds.
12. Install the ball joint into the knuckle.
13. Install the ball joint bolt.
14. Hold the head of the bolt with a 13-millimeter wrench while tightening the nut with a 15-millimeter socket.
15. Torque the ball joint through bolt to 46 foot-pounds.
16. Install the wheel.
17. Install the lug nuts and snug them down.
18. Torque the lug nuts to 94 foot-pounds in a cross pattern.

## Tips

- If you don't have a punch, you can put the nut back on and hit on top of the nut.  The presenter advised not to mushroom the bolt.
- If you need help getting the ball joint up in, you could use a soft face hammer.
