## Ingredients

- 2 lb chicken
- 1 tsp salt
- 8 C chicken broth
- 4 C AP flour
- 3 dollops shortening
- 1.75 C milk
- 0.5 C butter
- 2 Tbsp Morton Nature's Seasons seasoning
- to taste pepper

## Instructions

1. Add the cut-up chicken, salt, and 4 cups of chicken broth into a large pot.
2. Bring the mixture to a boil, then set a timer for 10 minutes.
3. While the chicken is cooking, add 4 cups of all-purpose flour and 3 good dollops of shortening to a bowl.
4. Use the backside of a fork to cut the shortening into the flour until the flour looks crumbly and there are no large pieces of shortening left.
5. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and start slowly adding in 1 ¾ cups of milk.
6. Mix the milk with the flour using your hand until a dough ball forms.
7. Flour your surface, turn the dough out, and knead it a few times until a smooth ball forms.
8. Flour the rolling pin and roll the dough out until it's real thin.
9. Use a pizza cutter or a knife to cut the dough into small squares.
10. Gather all the dumplings and place them into a clean, dry bowl.
11. Once the 10-minute timer for the chicken goes off, add ½ a cup of butter to the pot and cover it.
12. Once the butter is melted, remove the lid, give it a good stir, and add 2 tablespoons of seasoning and 4 more cups of chicken broth.
13. Once the mixture comes back up to a hard simmer or light boil, start adding in the dumplings, a couple at a time, making sure to poke them down gently.
14. Once all the dumplings are added, give them a good poke and then cover the pot.
15. Turn the heat down on the stove so that it's at a steady simmer and let it cook for about 30 minutes, checking occasionally to ensure the chicken is not stuck to the bottom.
16. After about 30 minutes, remove the lid to allow the liquid to thicken.
17. Keep cooking at a low simmer and stir regularly to prevent sticking.
